Cortex Hair Straighteners - could they be the new GHD's?

A couple of months ago I went to the Salon International Hair Show at Excel in London - think the Ideal Home Exhibition but for Hair and Beauty!

For the most part it was your average day, looking around at products and talking to suppliers etc. BUT the best part of my day was trying out the new Cortex Hair Straighteners that I have been hearing SO much about. This new product is out there to rival GHD and I have to admit that I was sceptical...that was until I had a go at them.

It was quite funny actually (well not for me) but I had been forced by another supplier to have my hair curled, with some new device that he was pushing, and he turned my lovely hair into something out of the 80's. My Sister-In-Law found it hysterical and for a short while I had to walk around with some dodgy looking locks BUT after meeting up with the Cortex people and trying out their new Steamliner Styler, my hair looked even better than before.

As you can see they had gone to town on my hair, using all sorts of different styles - DISASTER!

As you can see they had gone to town on my hair, using all sorts of different styles - DISASTER!

What makes these straighteners so special and SO good is that they have Tourmaline-Ceramic plates that infuse the hair with nourishing Argan Oil. Also, unlike GHD's you can control the temperature as it has 6 different heat settings and 2 different steam settings. They heat to 450 degrees farenheit in under 20 seconds and are just generally brilliant.

Look how lovely and straight my hair was after using the stylers!!

SO, in conclusion these straighteners are AWESOME and even better than that is that Loopy Hair clients can get them at a reduced price AND just in time for Christmas, so why not add them to your list or make someone happy by getting them a pair??

They normally retail at £149 but you can get them for £99 if you order by quoting LOOPYHAIR. You can order them through me (drop me an email or see me at your next appointment) or you can call them on 0208 133 1218.

I know that I would be REALLY happy if I found a pair of these under my tree this year.

Have a good weekend :)

True Keratin - the hair MIRACLE!

I told you last week that I was buzzing with excitement for the new treatment that I was going to be offering since having it done myself - True Keratin - so here it is..........

True Keratin has been described by many as a miracle product, so I was more than eager to try it out for myself. I can't sell anything that I haven't tried first, so I decided to give it a go and all I can say is WOW! After one treatment I now have super easy, frizz free, glossy hair which has made my life 100 times easier and i'm NOT exaggerating.

True Keratin is ideal for; damaged, unmanageable, frizzy, fragile, brittle hair and provides intense hydration and protects against heat damage, which in return repels humidity and keeps split ends at bay.

The results are astounding - my hair is straighter, smoother and shinier but the best bit of all is that it's reduced my styling time by 90%. If you know me then you'll know my hair is VERY long and VERY thick, so this has literally changed my life.

I don't like to put anything negative in my blogs but as you can imagine, miracles don't come cheap and it's not a quick treatment. The service can take anywhere between 1.5 and 4.5 hours, depending on the length of your hair, the thickness and the condition - it also means that price can vary. Salons charge anywhere between £200 & £250!! You also HAVE to use a special shampoo and conditioner, which will prolong the keratin in your hair and the RRP for this is £17.99/£19.99. I have to say that using it will make a massive difference to the length of time the treatment holds in your hair and if you're going to be spending the £££ then you want to make sure it lasts for as long as possible. The length of time it lasts for also varies on your hair type but can be anything from 2-5 months.

The True Keratin Shampoo & Conditioner that helps to prolong the treatment.

The True Keratin Shampoo & Conditioner that helps to prolong the treatment.

Since i've had such a good experience with True Keratin, I am going to offer this treatment on a promotional price for a limited time. The first 5 people to book with me will get the treatment plus the Shampoo & Conditioner (which you keep for home use) for the bargain of £150!!!!!!! After that the price will be from £180 (again, pricing depends on the length and condition of your hair, you will need a consultation).

With the festive period just around the corner it might make a nice pressie, so perhaps you could add this to your Christmas list!

If you seriously have issues with your hair being frizzy and unmanageable or you want to stop using the straightners and don't mind splashing out, then I HIGHLY recommend using True Keratin, I will DEFINITELY be doing it again.

As always, if you're not sure about it or want some more information then please feel free to call/email me or have a chat with me at your next appointment.

Have a fantastic weekend :)

***COMING SOON*** True Keratin Smoothing Treatment

I'm very excited because yesterday I had the True Keratin treatment done on my hair and I CANNOT WAIT to share my review with you.

This treatment has really taken off recently and I know that for some of my clients it will solve all of your hair dilemas!

I promise I won't make you wait too long - KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED!!

Loopy Hair now has a new fabulous treatment, which could potentially change your life.....well, your hair at least!

ColorpHlex is a new and exciting treatment, which naturally bonds, protects and strengthens your hair during the colouring and bleaching process. Ultimately, it reduces damage and breakage and works from inside the hair shaft whilst the colour is processing.

Clinical trials show using ColorpHlex increases hair strength by 4 times, returning hair to it's pre-coloured healthy state.

The best thing about this product is that the ingredients are all from naturally derived vegetable proteins AND you don't have to just use it when you're having a colour put on, you can also use it as a one-off treatment, which takes around 20 minutes.

The process is simple and easy and the benefits are wonderful.

Since i've started using it in the Salon i've had nothing but wonderful comments from my clients. In fact, regular client, Sarah Mckay said:

"Lou, I'm blown away by the ColorpHlex treatment you put in my hair. All the frizz has gone and it's incredibly soft and silky - I can't stop playing with it, thank you so much, you're a star"

For a limited period of time I am going to offer the ColorpHlex treatment for £15 if you add it to your colour - so call me now and have a chat about it or even better - BOOK AN APPOINTMENT!!

Hello lovely readers

i just wanted to touch on the subject of cancellations, which has been a bit of an issue recently.

I totally understand that these things happen, hey we're all human, life can get in the way BUT it's very frustrating when I get a last minute cancellation and don't have enough time to fill the gap, leaving me with loooooong periods between clients.

We're now on the run up to the busiest part of my year - PARTY SEASON - and appointments are at a premium, so much so that I have a waiting list! If you need to cancel, for whatever reason, please try to give me at least 24 hours notice as I then might have a chance of moving people around or giving someone the appointment who is currently on my waiting list.

Thanks for understanding

It's a MIRACLE!!

The Summer is now over (did it ever really get started??) and I am back from travels. Apologies to you my lovely readers, for neglecting you but I promise that I will make it up to you by way of a give-away VERY soon!

In preparation of the give-away, which will be a bottle of my favourite hair treatment 'Argan Miracle 10' I thought i'd tell you a bit about it.

The product does EXACTLY what it says on the tin (or bottle) it really is a miracle! I recommend it to all of my customers, no matter what hair type they have because it has so many benefits.

It's a leave in spray, which can be used on wet or dry hair and radically improves condition and enhances style and manageability! It contains high concentrations of natural ingredients, including Argan, Sunflower Seed and Hemp Oil - all of which are extremely light weight and incredibly nourishing. It also contains Manuka Honey, which has healing properties, which seals in moisture and helps split ends.

If you've been abroad this Summer (or even if you haven't) then you can give your hair a pick-me-up by introducing this to your hair routine.

Ask me about it next time you're in the Salon and buy some from me to try for yourself - it will quickly become your new best friend!

New Hair Style - "The Lob"

Hands up who's thinking about getting a haircut?? OK, so who wants to have a change but they're not brave enough?? Then fear not because I have a great solution for you - THE LOB!

Some of you may have heard of this hairstyle - it's been pretty big in 2015 and it's a style that us hairdressers LOVE.

"The Lob" is an in-between long and short bob and the best thing is that it works well for most hair types. It can make fine hair look far thicker and if needed you can slice out some weight through the ends to give a messier, less blunt look.

It also looks great with or without a fringe (check out the celebs above for proof). You can have a blunt fringe, a heavy side swept fringe or none at all! If you chat to your hairdresser they will advise what is best for your face shape.

Another nice way to make your "Lob" a bit different is to add some colour. This can help define the shape and style - perhaps a few highlights or lowlights, if you're nervous about adding a more daring obvious block colour throughout, or if you're a colour virgin.

Once you have the cut, you need to use the right styling products to achieve the look yourself at home - which I can help you with.

Have a chat with me next time you're in the Salon and we can talk through the various options!

Dry Scalp SOS!

There are so many people who have problems with dry scalp and a question I get asked a lot, is how to keep it at bay!

The truth is, that it's more common than you think and all of us, once in a while, suffer from dry, irritable, flaky scalp.....and it's nothing to be ashamed of because most of the time it can be easily sorted.

There are many reasons why you might end up with dry scalp:

Weather Changes
Hormonal Changes
Excess alcohol consumption
Lack of nutrients - fatty acids and vitamin b

Sometimes it can just be caused by using the wrong shampoos or hair products for your hair types and sometimes by simply not rinsing your hair out thoroughly enough when washing it.

You need to make sure you wash your hair with warm water, not hot and when you think you've rinsed enough, rinse a little bit more. A blast of cold water is alwasy great for the hair to add shine!

A few shampoo suggestions are:

E45 Dry Scalp Shampoo
Kera Care - Anti Dandruff Moisturising Shampoo & Conditioner
Head & Shoulders
T Gel

I would always suggest to use these until the problem has been solved and then return to your usual shampoo and conditioner.

There are also a few home-made treatments you can try:

Tea Tree Oil - it has a powerful natural anti-fungal and anti inflammatory properties. You can add 10-20 drops of tea tree oil to half a cup of mild baby shampoo and use daily until the scalp improves OR dilute 2-3 drops in one tablespoon of vegetable oil and massage the mixture into your scalp!

Coconut Oil - this creates a barrier that helps keep the skin and scalp moisturised. Rub a little coconut oil onto the scalp after washing your hair and the scalp is clean. Leave for an hour and wash out with a mild shampoo. Repeat this a few times a week.

If you are suffering and don't know where to begin then give me a call for some advice OR if you've tried any of the above and it doesn't seem to be getting any better, make an appointment to see your Doctor - you may need a stronger, prescription shampoo!

Loopy's Top 10 Hair Tips

As you'd imagine, i'm often asked about the best way to look after your hair. There are lots of myths out there and there's also loads you can do to make sure your hair stays in good condition for as long as possible.

I thought i'd share 10 Tips with you, which will see you get as much as possible out of your hair between visits to the hairdresser:

1. Firstly, your hair is weakest when it's wet, so NEVER use a brush on it, always use a wide tooth comb - this will minimise breakage.

2. NEVER rub your hair roughly with a towel - it's one of the most damaging things you can do to hair, always pat it dry.

3. Avoid purchasing expensive products which say they will solve your split ends problem - it's a lie, nothing but having your hair trimmed will ever get rid of split ends.

4. Think about it; prevention is always better than cure, so buy products which suit your hair and. If you spend a lot of money having a colour put on your hair then buy the best products to maximise that and make the colour last as long as it can. There are a lot of products which help prolong hair colour, so purchase them and use them correctly - make sure you leave them on for the right amount of time and it will definitely help. Why not book a deep conditioning treatment after you've had your hair coloured, to help put back some of the moisture!

5. One product that I recommend (and also sell) is Miracle 10 Argan Oil - not only does it smell great but it also de-tangles, reduces static, controls frizz, prevents damage, improves moisture levels, adds shine, gives a silky feel and enhances manageability!

6. If you'd like a quick fix to cover up greys between seeing your colourist then you can always try using *WOW* or  Charles Worthington Instant Root Concealer  it does exactly what it says on the tin - covers your roots until you can get them done again, a great temporary solution!!

7. A great product to use to make your hair feel and look great is Osmo Shine Serum, it makes your hair look shiny & glossy and a few drops really goes a long way!

8. One thing that still surprises me is that people don't know a really cheap and easy way to get shinier hair is to blast your hair with cold water, after you've washed & conditioned it. Cold water seals the cuticles and gives it an instant natural shine.

9. Something that a lot of people get wrong is that they use their shampoo and conditioner in the same way. It's much better to shampoo the roots and condition the ends of your hair.

10. Lastly, putting your hair up into a ponytail on holiday seems like such a good idea. It keeps it out of your way and also shields it from the sun (to a certain extent) BUT using the wrong type of hair band can do more bad than good. Pulling hair ties out of your hair can really cause a lot of damage, so if there's one product you buy to take away with you this Summer, make sure it's the Invisibobble. A fabulous hair tie which is kind to your hair!

So there you have it - follow my tips and you'll look after and manage your hair SO much better, with reduced damage. Also, I stock and use some of the products listed above, so next time you see me please feel free to ask me about them :)

Home-made Hair Treatments

Something that I hear a lot is "the hairdresser is so expensive" and "I can't afford treatments" but when someone has had a bad experience it's another story, they're willing to pay whatever it takes to get it sorted! If your hair is important to you then don't scrimp, just remember that you get what you pay for, so sometimes a little bit more is worth it.

However, you don't need to spend loads on looking after your hair and there are some home-made treatments that you can do yourself that will save you a few pennies and don't have any chemicals in - which can only be good for your hair and your scalp!

I've listed below some professional and DIY treatments that you might not have considered:

1. Argan Miracle 10 - I harp on about this all the time but it is absolutely brilliant and ideal for everyone!!!

2. Osmo Deep Intensive Repair Mask - this is specially formulated for over stressed, heat traumatised and chemically abused hair and is BRILLIANT!

3. L'Oreal Professional Mythic Oil Masque - for all hair types to nourish and replenish the hair for glossy results!

4. Tigi Bed Head Urban Antidotes - and it comes in three different types:
 - Recovery Treament - for dry worn out hair needing moisture
- Re-energise - perfect for normal hair that just needs a wake up
- Resurrection - for fragile & damaged hair

1. Coconut Oil (everyone is going crazy for this at the moment) it's a great treatment for dry hair. It's rich in proteins, fatty acids, Vitamin B&C, Zinc, Potassium and Iron - best of all you can get it ANYWHERE!

Simply wash your hair, towel dry it and work the oil through, section by section, massaging into the scalp and then wrap it in a warm towel and leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off and condition as normal!

2. Honey & Olive Oil - mix 4 tablespoons of honey, 6 tablespoons of olive oil and apply to wet hair, leave for 15-30 minutes and wrap in a towel or plastic cap/bag and then rinse thoroughly.

3. DIY Colour Stripping - I recently found out about a good way of stripping colour from your hair, which doesn't use any harsh chemicals. This will only work on colours and not on bleach. Simply buy some Vitamin C Powder or the soluble tablets and crush them up, mix with lots of Fairy Liquid and Shampoo - clarifying shampoo is the best, so something like Head & Shoulders. Mix it all together and it creates a foamy paste. Spread this onto the hair, working in sections, put a plastic bag on it and leave for up to an hour. Then wash off and use a really good conditioner (and a spray of Miracle 10 if you have any). The mixture of Vitamin C with the abrasive shampoo's will start to lift the colour out. The best use for this treatment is when you are looking to fade a colour, to put another colour on top. I'd still recommend coming to see me if you need a colour correction for something that's gone wrong!!

Anyway - I hope these are all helpful but if you're not sure about anything please do give me a call :)

Childrens Hair

Following on from my blog last week about how to look after your hair when you're pregnant, I thought it might be a nice follow-on to talk about how to look after your son/daughters hair and what to expect when you take them to have their hair cut for the first time - below are some tips i've learnt from experience!

Looking after your child's hair can sometimes be very challenging. Their hair is thinner and more delicate to start with and more prone to damage.  Regular trims and care needs to be taken.

A few helpful tips..........

Wash their hair 2-3 times a week using a mild shampoo - Johnson's Baby Shampoo is one of the most popular brands!

All Children kick up a stink if you try and brush/comb tangled hair, so condition using a leave-in tangle free conditioning spray. The Miracle 10 spray, which I also sell is my favourite!

Another alternative is Schwarzkopf Super Soft Kids De Tangle or Children's Farm Hair Detangler, which you can find in Boots

Once the hair has been sprayed with the product, use a wide tooth comb to detangle the hair section by section -  Tangle Teasers are also a life saver for parents to stop children complaining, they are really good for use on wet hair especially.

Visiting a hair salon with young children can be a scary experience for them and can be a nightmare for you . A good starting point is taking them with you when you have your hair cut, so they can see it's not scary and to get to know and feel comfortable with your stylist . I don't recommend you take them when your having the full works of a colour and cut because that can take hours and won't be enjoyable for anyone. Bring their favourite toy or book, which can help with distraction. I've also used the trick of the ipad playing their favourite programmes...thanks peppa pig and fireman Sam!

Children need to have regular trims to keep the hair strong and even to encourage it to become thicker. So even if you have the tiniest tips cut off, it really helps. The earlier you take them to the salon the quicker they will start to enjoy the experience which means they will sit better which also means a great hair cut.

If you are at all nervous about taking your little cherub to the hairdresser for the first time then call me for some advice.

Have a great week :)

Pregnancy Hair

I’m sure one of the last things you’ll be thinking about when you get the news you’re pregnant, is your hair. BUT don’t forget, that as your body changes your hair changes too! I often have clients asking me questions about colouring in particular, so I thought I’d cover some Pregnancy Hair FAQ’s here:

How will my hair change?

As soon as you get pregnant your hair will start to change and during the second trimester you may notice that it starts to look thicker and healthier. It’s not that you’re growing any more hair but thanks to your pregnancy hormones you are, in fact, losing less! On average we lose around 100 hairs a day but whilst pregnant this massively reduces.

On the flip side, once you’ve given birth your growth cycle returns to normal and usually between 3 and 6 months after birth your hair will begin to fall out again.

A lot of women comment on how shiny their hair is during pregnancy, so at least that’s one good thing.

Believe it or not your hair can also change texture during pregnancy. It can go from curly to straight and vice versa.

Are there any products I should avoid when pregnant?

If you use medicated shampoos then some Doctors recommend you stop using them during the term of your pregnancy – have a chat with your doctor or midwife and see if there is an alternative.

I’ve been told I should stop colouring my hair – is that true?

This is the most common question I’m asked – the answer is IT’S UP TO YOU! Avoiding chemicals is completely up to the individual, so if you normally have an all over scalp colour this is something to consider.

Some Doctors recommend stopping, whilst others say it’s OK – no one truly knows if anything is absorbed internally, we have many pores that are deep on our scalp, so there is always a chance but there is no evidence that this can cause abnormalities.

Just remember; IT’S YOUR CHOICE – some clients continue with their usual colour, some change to having highlights or lowlights, so that it’s not directly on the scalp. There are natural products out there like Henna that you can use as an alternative.

Or, if you want to and it doesn’t bother you, let your colour grow out until after the birth and go au-naturel for a while!

If anyone has any questions regarding looking after your hair during pregnancy then drop me a line :)

Summer Hair!

So, it's the 1st June - which means we are officially into SUMMER ***insert excitement here***!!

As a nation, we Brits live for the summer months – Britain really is beautiful when the sun shines. A lot of my clients have already got their summer holidays booked and have started asking me about the best way to make sure their hair stays in tip-top condition when faced with sun, sea and humid weather.

Remember: Sun = damage! You need to put as much moisture as you can back into your hair and this can be done in various methods.

·        Apply a deep conditioning treatment or conditioner to your hair before going out in the sun, comb it through and then tie into a bun. This will protect it from the sea/sun/chlorine and will give it an extra boost of moisture, shine & softness.

·        One of the best ways to help your hair is to eat healthily, which is a lot easier in the summer as everyone is having BBQ’s. Omega 3, fatty acids (such as eggs, spinach and Salmon) all help to keep the hair strong & healthy.

·        Summer is an ideal time to let your hair dry naturally, reducing exposure to heated appliances, which reduces damage.

·        A quick fix, so that you don’t keep washing your hair all the time, is Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste is available for all hair types, so there's something for everyone!

Batiste is available for all hair types, so there's something for everyone!

·        It can be as simple as wearing a hat – simple and effective!

·        After swimming in the sea or the pool, rinse your hair to get the chlorine and salt out of it.

·        If you swim a lot it’s worth investing in a good shampoo which is designed to remove chlorine. Just make sure you use a good conditioner to put the moisture back in. Boots own "Sun, Swim & Gym" is a good one.

·        I’ve talked before about Argan Miracle 10 – it’s great and smells lovely.

·        GREEN HAIR ALERT – it happens to the best of us but a quick fix is to shampoo and rinse straight after swimming, apply tomato paste or ketchup, neat or mixed with a little shampoo and leave on for 30 mins then rinse thoroughly and condition.

·        Lots of my clients have a different hair colour depending on the season – why not have a colour consultation to find out your options. It could just be a subtle change of a few highlights framing your face to add a special touch for those summer days.

Think about it this way, we moisturise more in the Summer, as the sun dries out our skin, the same goes for your hair – CONDITION! CONDITION! CONDITION!

If you're unsure about anything i've mentioned above or you just want some tips on how to use the products, give me a shout!
