There are so many people who have problems with dry scalp and a question I get asked a lot, is how to keep it at bay!
The truth is, that it's more common than you think and all of us, once in a while, suffer from dry, irritable, flaky scalp.....and it's nothing to be ashamed of because most of the time it can be easily sorted.
There are many reasons why you might end up with dry scalp:
Excess alcohol consumption
Lack of nutrients - fatty acids and vitamin b
Sometimes it can just be caused by using the wrong shampoos or hair products for your hair types and sometimes by simply not rinsing your hair out thoroughly enough when washing it.
You need to make sure you wash your hair with warm water, not hot and when you think you've rinsed enough, rinse a little bit more. A blast of cold water is alwasy great for the hair to add shine!
A few shampoo suggestions are:
I would always suggest to use these until the problem has been solved and then return to your usual shampoo and conditioner.
There are also a few home-made treatments you can try:
Tea Tree Oil - it has a powerful natural anti-fungal and anti inflammatory properties. You can add 10-20 drops of tea tree oil to half a cup of mild baby shampoo and use daily until the scalp improves OR dilute 2-3 drops in one tablespoon of vegetable oil and massage the mixture into your scalp!
Coconut Oil - this creates a barrier that helps keep the skin and scalp moisturised. Rub a little coconut oil onto the scalp after washing your hair and the scalp is clean. Leave for an hour and wash out with a mild shampoo. Repeat this a few times a week.
